Junior Syndicate Newsletter

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to Term 3. We are over half way through the year! We now have the 2 longest terms behind us.

While Miss Strong is Acting Principal we are lucky enough to have Mrs Annika Thawley teaching Room 1.

This term Rooms 1 and 3 welcome Michelle White back to help us with our PMP. If you would like to help with this, please see your class teacher. PMP (Perceptual Motor Programme) is designed to develop co-ordination, balance, memory, body awareness and language. If you would like to know more the programme runs from 9 -10:00 in the PA Centre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This term’s Junior Syndicate Assemblies will be on August 29 and September 26 at 9am. Whole school assemblies will continue to be every Friday at 2:15 which each class taking a turn at presenting and we would love to see you there. Room 3 is presenting on August 12, Room 4 on August 19 and Room 1 on September 23.

Daffodil Day is August 26 – start keeping an eye out for yellow themed clothes now – we always support the Cancer Society for this worthwhile cause.

Last year’s Father Day Fun Day was so successful we will do it again this year. This will be on Thursday September 1 at 1:30pm. Please keep an eye out for more information.

Wheels Day – September 28. Details will be sent home closer to the time.

Riwaka School Extravaganza – this will be held towards the end of term – you will get more information in your school newsletters.

Don’t forget you can have all information emailed to you  - just let the school office know.

If you know of any families who are intending to send their children to Riwaka School, can you please encourage them to fill in a pre-enrolment form at the school office. It really helps with the organisation of the junior classes. Likewise, if you know of people who would like more information about our school before deciding where to send their children, encourage them to make an appointment with Megan through the school office.

Please keep up the home learning support; it really is in your child’s best interest to be doing the reinforcement work we send home. Please ask your classroom teacher if you would like more suggestions of how to help your child/ren at home.

There are some really fun ways to help your child with their Mathematics. Games such as Connect 4, dominoes, checkers, and cards all help with number recognition and addition and subtraction strategies.  Check out these websites  for some more ideas www.nzmaths.co.nz or www.studyladder.co.nz

Please do not send toys to school with children. They don’t need them and they cause unnecessary stress for the classroom teachers. Named balls and books are fine.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on our Junior Syndicate Blog! http://juniorsyndicate.blogspot.com

Other reminders:

·         Please send some spare clothes along to school with your child if they are inclined to play fun yet muddy games at break times
·         All children are to stay home if they are unwell in order to minimize spread of illness
·         Please make sure your contact details are up to date in the school office
·         Remember to let the office know if you child is not on the bus
·         Please ensure your child’s belongings are clearly named

We can’t thank you enough for the support and understanding we get from you. Teaching is not an easy job and it is wonderful that you appreciate the difficulties we face each day as we try to please everyone.

Thanks for your continued support.

Megan Strong, Annika Thawley, Robyn Hall, and Marlene Howie
